Professional Exfoliation Treatment Purpose

Superficial exfoliation are topical exfoliants applied to the skin to soften the dead skin layer and exfoliate the skin. Stimulating cell turnover will help to restore the skin to a more youthful appearance. Many skin conditions can be improved when receiving a series of peels. Fine lines will be softened, dull skin will appear more radiant, rough or uneven skin will become smoother. Sun damaged skin or blotchy skin will even out. Acne scarring may be softened. Because these peels are superficial there is no downtime.

Patients Who Should Not Be Treated

Exfoliation should not be used on clients with active cold sores or warts, skin with open wounds, sunburn, excessively sensitive skin, dermatitis orinflammatory rosacea in the area to be treated. Inform your esthetician if you have any history of herpes simplex.

Accutane®: NO treatments, while a client is on this treatment. Wait 6 months to a year before trying any other exfoliation.

  • Any exfoliating products that may be drying or irritating
  • Electrolysis

  • Patients who have had medical cosmetic facial treatments or procedures should wait until skin sensitivity completely resolves before having an exfoliation.

After Your Exfoliation

It is crucial to the health of your skin and the success of your peel that these guidelines be followed

  • It is imperative that you use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and avoid direct sunlight.
  • Patients with hypersensitivity to the sun should take extra precautions to guard against exposure immediately following the procedure as they may be more sensitive following the peel.
  • Because of the superficial nature of an Exfoliation, clients might see visible peeling. Occasionally, some patients may have very minor flaking 3-4 days after the procedure.
  • Skin may appear slightly redder than usual for about 1-2 hours after the treatment. If neck and décolletage are treated, the redness might last slightly longer.
  • Mineral makeup covers, helps correct and protect.
